Just read up on Coca-Cola history on Wikipedia, as you do. Shocked to discover that the new Coke formula which was introduced in 1985 and sold until 1990 was actually what we now know as Diet Coke. When they re-introduced the Classic Coke formula in 1990 they rebranded what was sold as just Coke between 1985-1990 as Diet Coke. Diet Coke and Coke use a completely different formula, hence the difference in taste. It’s not the sugar that makes them taste different. Have you tasted sugar? Sugar doesn’t taste like Coke! The difference between Diet Coke and Coke Zero today is that Diet Coke remains a completely different formula while Coke Zero is just the classic formula without sugar. Now you can all sleep tight knowing that the holidays will keep coming.
